About the Artist

Born in 1985 in Christchurch, New Zealand, Sam Harrison is a contemporary artist working primarily in sculpture, drawing, and woodcut printmaking. A graduate of the School of Art and Design at Christchurch Polytechnic Institute of Technology (2006), Harrison’s practice is grounded in an unflinching observation of the human form — exploring themes of vulnerability, physicality, and the passage of time with raw, often arresting intensity.

His first solo exhibition was held at CoCA in Christchurch, and he has since exhibited widely across New Zealand and Australia in both solo and group shows. Known for his ability to capture tension, stillness, and emotional weight through form and texture, Harrison’s work is held in public and private collections including the National Gallery of Australia. He currently lives and works in Christchurch.
